- - Hello To All. - -
HELLO TO MY DEAREST BABIES... (:
I am very sorry for not posting for one period of time. That is why I am here now to post (:And before I start the post, I would like to correct Eilene's previous post. It was Eilene who suggested the Exco-meeting but it was Rebecca whom ordered and paid for the meals. (: So ya, this is just to clarify arhs. Nothing much.
:DDD It has been weeks since school re-open. And there is quite a few event that occurred. Like the Kashiwa Municipal High School concert, GYSB Orientation, GYSB open house. (: I am very happy that everyone co-operated in those event and made it a successful one. For the open house yesterday... GYSB recruited 40 members!!! Our initial target was 35 members. (: Thanks to our dearest baby whom put in the effort to decorate the booths and promoting our band to the secondary ones... :DDD I hope that our secondary one members will stay with GYSB for the rest of their 4years in their secondary life. (: JIAYOU OH! You guys know that i love you all right. (((:
For the Kashiwa Municipal High School concert. Its really a very nice and worthy concert. Not to forget to thank our dearest Mr.How for treating us to the concert. You guys just need to write him a one page long essay about your reflections and be his good babies... (: Im sure he will be more than happy if you babies be happy, good and healthy always. The deadline for the essay is TUESDAY ( 22/1/2008 ). If you guys still haven complete your essay, here's a few points you all can consider.
The arrangements for all songs/selections of songs Costumes/gimmicks How did the band cue themselves in How the rest of the band "give the spotlight" to the soloist
That was mainly what i wrote about and I hope that these might be some useful points for you guys (((: I will try to keep you guys inform of certain concerts and encourage you're to go. Like how we went for the Sparkwinds concert. Hope to see more people engaging in this kind of " recreation " activities. :D If you join our outings, you'll be happy and enjoy it (: THE MORE THE MERRIER BABIES! (:
Well, the next major event will be our SYF. As you guys know, we got a Certificate of Distinction the previous Outdoor assessment. I will work extremely hard for this year's Certificate. you all must JIayou too alright? (: great!
And this is a reminder to ALL babies. Please take note of your uniforms. Tuck in your shirts at all times. I understand that you all might not notice or know that your shirt is tucked out. But please check once in a while to ensure that your shirt is tucked in and you look smart al all times. (: It will not be nice if you constantly get caught by teachers/Mr.Goh.
Ok, DEAREST BABIES... I'll see you all on tuesday!!! (: LOVE YOU GUYS!!! :DDD
YOUR AWESOME DRUM MAJOR, SHARICHONG
p/s : Get all your exco-member's name correctly ok? (: They are great people who helped out in everything and anything that can make the band better. They love you equally much! (:
Guangyang Secondary School Band has grown and matured significantly over the years. Under the direction of band instructors Mr Jasen How, Mr Goh Kim Seng and other guest instructors, the School Band has been making strides in its level of proficiency. Combined band practices are held twice weekly, and pupils also carry out sectional training as well as footdrill and formation practices. While the training is intensive, it has instilled in pupils a sense of discipline and passion to make good music. Games are also conducted to ensure that band members have fun too.
Besides being able to play well, other aspects of pupils' character development are also encouraged. For instance, they have contributed to the community by participating in numerous outdoor performances such as the ‘Music in the City’ series at Ngee Ann City in July 2007. Other activities such as band camps, held during the March, June and December holidays, helped our members foster a spirit of cooperation within the band.
In Year 2006, the school band participated for the first time in the SYF Assessment for Marching Bands and was awarded the Certificate of Distinction. In the year 2007, under the baton of Mr Wilson Ong, we were awarded the Bronze medal in the SYF Central Judging for Concert Bands. In the year 2009, under the baton of Mr Jasen How, we were awarded the Silver medal in the SYF Central Judging for Concert Bands. Also participating in Overseas Competitions, the band received the Silver award in the 21st Century International Arts Festival Band Competition 2009 held in Genting, Malaysia. With a bumper crop of 45 recruits in 2007 to a 100 stong band in 2009, the GYSS band looks forward to greater achievements and better music…. one band, one sound!!!

The origin of this blog is traced back to the era of which our secondary three members in the band were going through the NCO training programme. It was suggested in one of the meeting held among the NCOs, assigning Swee Han and Chun Heng with the task of management in the blog. And thus giving birth to the blog, gyss-bandd.blogspot.com, on the 15th October, 2007.
The function of this blog is to enable easeful communication between all members of the band – comments and opinions unable to express during normal band practices can be expressed here. However, band members are reminded to be sensitive and careful with speech in precaution of violation to other band members via derogatory, sarcastic or offensive remarks. Band members are advise to express themselves here on how they feel about practices, band, etc. This would ultimately allow better understanding of every individual in the band as well as forge cohesiveness and stronger bond amongst each other – one band, one sound.
